Human Rights Association

Established in 1986, the Human Rights Association (HRA) is the most widespread human rights organisation in Turkey with the most comprehensive approach to the field of rights and freedoms. The association is engaged in documenting and reporting human rights violations and fights for a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish problem, which is one of the main problems with respect to human rights and democracy in Turkey. The Human Rights Association also works to promote Turkey’s efforts in dealing with the past, to help violations become visible and to pursue awareness-raising actions and activities. HRA aims to support victims in their search for justice and to combat impunity. The association promotes the idea of human rights and works to create a culture of rights. In this context, it also organizes human rights trainings.

HRA is a member of the following networks: Human Rights Joint Platform (IHOP), Refugee Rights Coordination, International Criminal Court Turkey Coalition (UCMK), International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN), and World Organisation against Torture (OMCT).

HRA is open to cooperation and experience sharing with civil society organisations on the rights and freedoms included in its charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
